Where are all the poppies?

It is four days until Remembrance Sunday and I have yet to see somebody selling poppies. I've noticed that over the years, there seem to be less and less poppy collectors and I think it is very very sad. The Royal British Legion's website admits that,

"Each year our Poppy People numbers drop by thousands, as many of our older collectors decide that they can no longer assist us. They have well and truly done their bit, and now we need to focus on new faces to come forward and lend a hand."

I used to see cadets and proud war veterans eagerly selling poppies around shopping centres in droves. Last year I saw a few volunteers outside Asda. It does seem, though, that poppy sellers are dwindling fast. I will keep looking out for them but I urge you all, if you have a poppy, wear it with pride and let me know where I can get one from!

What do you think? Have you noticed this or, in your area, are poppy collectors still thriving? Drop me a line and let me know what you think.

Watching TV across the pond I always wondered where news-readers and pundits got their poppies. I'm still in the dark living over here. I've seen a fair few people wearing them, but none for sale. So in answer to your question, I don't know...

I was talking about this at the weekend with a friend. He felt that we were all being 'poppy pressured' because all the TV presenters have been wearing them for the last 2 weeks. He argued that we were sociably obliged to wear them, people don't actually give two hoots about war veterans and just wear them out of courtesy.
So even if you can't find a poppy to buy, what really counts is if you took time out to remember.

I have noticed that there is a stall in the Mall in Preston selling poppies and a couple of people selling them outside the shopping centre, and in a few shops but that is it.
I am suprised at this, especially as it is the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War. I thought there would be a bigger drive to sell them.
A few other towns and cities I have visited recently, such as Blackburn and Lancaster are the same.

UPDATE: I was in the Trafford Centre today and saw a table of them in the food hall, as well as boxes upon boxes of them in WH Smiths. A bit late now I guess.

No I dont think it is too late, toady is Rememberance Sunday but Remberance Day is not until Tuesday the 11th. Maybe they will have a drive to sell more poppies in the next few days?

I know what you mean. I was surprised that there was not someone collecting money for the poppy appeal at uni I am sure most students could have found a few pennies to spare. The only place I saw a poppy collection was at the Trafford Centre on Saturday before the 11th November.
